The missional church… does not create sanctified spaces into which unbelievers must come to encounter the gospel. Rather, the missional church disassembles itself and seeps into the cracks and crevices of a society in order to be Christ to those who don’t yet know him.”

Space

Gathering spaces don't need to eat up the church budget. Businesses can provide meeting space for believers to gather and worship.

Funding

When we find strong leaders with sustainable mission projects, we invest into those leaders and those ventures.

Discipleship

Believers gather anywhere from businesses to backyards to beaches to parks, etc. They bring people to Christ and reach people that the traditional church likely won't.

Leadership

Reliable leaders make a mission sustainable. We look for leaders who are faithful, accessible, teachable and driven.

Mission

Missional leaders have clarity around the "orphans and widows" that they are designed to reach. The church seeks out and goes to the people in need in their communities to solve tangible problems.

Longevity

Each mission must involve a plan to see beyond the current circumstances to the next generations. Sustainability involves teaching the next generation how to fish.

FAQs

Find answers to frequently asked questions about The Oasis Project and our mission to integrate church and business.

What do you mean by “sustainable”?

For us, sustainable means there is:

  1. A trusted leader and a church gathering attached to the project.
  2. A clear plan around the longevity of the project that helps a community move forward.
How do you decide on which projects to invest in next?

Projects that we invest in have a lot to do with the relationship that we have to the leader and the project with the greatest potential impact to transform a community. We have our board, our team and a group of business advisors that help us choose.

Why such an emphasis on business?

Business owners have gifting that have always played a pivotal role in church expansion. As a team, we look for the gaps and find solutions, and from our vantage point, the gifting of entrepreneurs are not being mobilized well inside of the prevailing church structure.

Why small church?

The current prevailing church model focuses on growth and invitation. As church attendance continues to shrink each generation, we see the ability to reach people that may never walk into a church building through simple relationship and common mission.

What is a church?

There is Jesus and the Word of God

There are people

There is prayer

There is generosity

There is food

There is mission

Why the blue buffalo?

Because we told our designer we didn’t want a palm tree.

Why Sweden?

Curtis and Mathilda have felt called back to that place to build community and serve the people in that place. It’s where his wife is from and they see great opportunity to show the love of Jesus in a post-secular culture.
